CHAÄCKMUSIC

Malvina Maury and N-DRIN combine music composition and vocal lyricism to create an “Epic-Urban” beat. Malvina, born in California, and raised in Nice, France, projects soulful vocals that move seamlessly from childlike innocence to the enduring pathos of deep loss to worldly abandon. Malvina has been a performer her entire life: from ballet, to musical theatre, through classical choir and jazz. William Bevington, professor/designer at the Parsons School of Design and, formerly, The Cooper Union, joins the team as a writer — basing his lyrics on metaphysical poets and earlier Elizabethan romance themes. N-DRIN (Andrin Jaquenoud) was born in Geneva, Switzerland; by the age of sixteen he was immersed in keyboards, computers, and anything and everything that could make sounds. Influenced by hip-hop, soul, reggae and R&B, infused with Latin and classical themes — his compositions are underscored by urban sounds with a seductive twist. The unlikely team: A Franco-American, a Swiss-Caribbean and a long-time New Yorker met serendipitously in Tokyo, where they brainstormed a series of songs that would be a confluence of contemporary urban beats with the intense passion of earlier poetic traditions. They named their music-writing team chaäck. Reuniting in New York in Spring 2015, they created the metropolitan sound that envelops compositions of smooth lyricism and strong instrumental chemistry — they call it “Epic-Urban.” The name chaäck refers to the unique cry of the jackdaw, that crafty and cunning bird whose cry mimics the sound cha-ack! Yet, the cry also reminds people of the word “shock! shock!” — Malvina, N-DRIN, and “The Professor” want bring an innovative shock to the artpop scene by infusing super-quality lyrics and vocal lyricism to innovative beats —
